Dominican Republic

Las Brisis del Este is an impoverished community on the outskirts of the Dominican Republic capitol city of Santo Domingo.  The community struggles with high unemployment, prostitution, drugs, and very poor living conditions.  Few houses have running water, and even fewer have reliable power.

In the midst of these conditions, we found a group of local
Christians hard at work to protect and support the children of the community while teaching them about God’s love.  Semillas de Esperanza (Seeds of Hope) is a community center where the children can go to receive help with school work, a hot meal, and Biblical teaching.

In partnership with Visiontrust, a Colorado Springs based mission organization, we have been able to come along side Semillas de Esperanza to support their works in the community.  Over the course of several years we have been able to send mission teams  to the community one or two times per year.  The time we have spent in Las Brisas has allowed us to build genuine relationship.  We build relationship so we can have credibility.  We build
credibility so we can speak truth. When we speak truth, the power of the Holy Spirit brings change.

These teams have built a new roof on the old community center, assembled a commercial grade playground that was shipped from the US, and built a new 5,000 sq ft community center. We have conducted VBS, hosted ministries for the teen boys and girls, and adult women and men of the community.  We have truly seen change as God is working in the community and people’s
individual lives.
